Data Protection and Identity Theft Prevention

Thursday, July 30, 2009 13:13

It all comes down to protecting your data. Data could be student records, documents of that thesis, family pictures, or banking login information.

Two important tips to protect your data:

  • Back up your data to an external drive and/or a network drive.
  • Keep important/sensitive information encrypted.

Sometimes it is necessary to share personal information. When it comes to sharing this sensitive data ask yourself:

  1. Who is asking?
  2. What are they asking for?
  3. Why do they need it?

If you do suspect identity theft go to the FTC ID Theft Site for information on dealing with ID theft.
